  • Bitter group rivalry in Khammam district Congress comes to fore
  • Reddy’s supporters obstruct her vehicle, throw eggs at her convoy
  • She dares them for open debate on her contributions to Khammam district
  • She contends she is not against T formation and calls herself a true Khammam ‘Adapaduchu’

Khammam: The bitter rivalry between Congress party leaders, MP Renuka Chowdhary and Minister for Horticulture R Venkat Reddy, took a murky turn as their supporters clashed at Tekulapalli in the district on Sunday. Renuka vent her spleen at the protesters.

Renuka undertook a ‘car yatra’ demanding that the Centre retain Bhadrachalam division in Telangana region. However, the rally faced opposition from the supporters of the Minister in Karepalli and Tekulapalli mandals in the district.

After addressing a public meeting at Tekulapalli, she and her supporters started heading to Yellandu. Even as she left the place, Venkat Reddy’s followers allegedly attacked ‘Lambadi Rights Forum’ leaders, who were following Renuka, near the town. With both groups going at each other, the situation soon became tense.
On learning about the incident, the MP rushed back to the spot and made enquiries with the injured. She also lodged a complaint with police against the attackers.

Later, addressing another public meeting at Karepalli, the MP lashed out at her detractors. She alleged that some Congress leaders were making false accusations that she was against Telangana state formation and were even questioning her nativity.

‘‘I truly belong to Khammam district and nobody can doubt my long association with the people in the district and undermine my contribution to its development. I do not need to prove that I am the district’s ‘Adapaduchu.’ Some selfish elements are carrying out a false campaign against me with narrow political interests. They will bite the dust, and I will not tolerate such practices,” she said.

She described herself as a tiger and warned her detractors not to provoke her. ‘‘If they continue their false campaign against me and try to suppress me, my bangles will turn into ‘Sudarshan Chakras’ in my hand,’’ she added.

She dared her detractors to come for an open debate on her contribution to the district’s welfare. After the meeting, she proceeded to the party office – she herself drove a tractor. However, the followers of the Minister obstructed her vehicle and raised ‘go back’ slogans. They even threw eggs at her convoy.
