Hyderabad : In view of the severe crop loss caused during the Kharif season due to cyclones, the state government has decided to take up effective water and energy management to achieve the targeted foodgrains production to the optimum level during Rabi season, which paves way for the food security to the maximum extent possible.

Reviewing the restoration works with regard to Phailin and Helen cyclones with the officials here, state Chief Secretary P K Mohanthy appreciated the good work done by district administration, Energy, Agriculture, Revenue, Disaster Management departments, etc., in minimising the loss.

He said it was painful that though the government took all precautionary measures crops and properties were damaged to a large extent in the cyclone-hit areas.

He said as a part of water management, government machinery had geared up to have the optimum productivity of crops under canal irrigation and to provide invariably 7 hours power supply to all 32 lakh pumpsets during present rabi season under effective and efficient energy management.

“Our ultimate objective is to protect the interests of the public at any cost. The Government is serious in ensuring that the fruits of every scheme reach the beneficiaries, particularly during this critical period of calamity,” Mohanthy added.

The official said that each and every acre of crop would be protected in Rabi by initiating necessary measures and deployment of special teams to monitor and oversee the crop patterns. He also ensured seven-hour power supply in Rabi.

AP was the only state in the country where free power was being implemented for the last 9 years without any break. So far, government has spent around Rs 32,000 crore on free power scheme, which immensely helped the farming community.

To improve the economic conditions of the state and to meet the requirements of the people of all walks, the government had also taken up short- and long-term welfare programmes with good governance. Special Chief Secretary

(Energy) M Sahoo, APTransco Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Chandra and Principal Secretary (Horticulture) Anil Punetha and other officials were present at the meeting.
