Hyderabad: Kavi Sangamam, a Facebook group which started its operations in 2011, organised a ‘Kavi Sangamam Poetry Festival’ at Golden Threshold on Sunday. Several veteran as well as amateur poets took part in it.

Guests of honour included K Srinivas, Editor of Andhra Jyothi, Prof Seedhanshu Yashaschandra, a Gujarati poet, MVR Shastri, Editor of Andhra Bhoomi, Allam Narayana, Editor of Namaste Telangana, and Arun Sagar, CEO of 10 TV. K Siva Reddy, a revolutionary poet, presided over the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Seedhanshu said that poetry was not just about words, but also about actions. He said that modern poets were reflecting upon the experiences of their professions in their poetry. Siva Reddy said that veteran poets had not been able to accept the new poetry which was experimenting with new genres. He stressed the need for them to embrace contemporary changes in the poetry. He said he was also trying to comprehend the perspectives of new styles of poetry. Yaqoob, the founder of Kavi Sangamam, observed that the present- day young poets who were actively responding to the needs of society were poised to be tomorrow’s leaders. During the festival several poets recited their poetry all day long and the festival concluded with song writer and poet Goreti Venkanna’s recitation.
