Kurnool: State Energy Conservation Mission Chief Executive Officer A Chandrasekhar Reddy on Monday urged people to set an example for the future generations by adopting power-saving methods.
Addressing a meeting of the mission in the collectorate, with Collector P Sudarshan Reddy in the chair, he called for promotion of non-conventional energy sources in view of the high cost of power generation and its heavy demand. As against 34 mu produced by gas-based plants in 2012 only 5-6 mu were generated this year. Whereas only Rs 3.50 was needed to generate one unit in the past, the cost had now reached Rs.6.32.
They advocated the use of LED bulbs, BIS motors and solar panels. Such measures could lead to saving of 15,000 mw worth Rs.9,500 crore. While attributing the power crisis to shortage of natural gas, he said there was a need to save power by everyone.
Those using ACs should maintain the temperature at 26 degrees Celsius and above to save eight per cent power consumption. The power utilised by ACs was equivalent to running of 30 fans. Only star rated domestic appliances should be used to save 20-40 per cent energy. Chandrasekhar Reddy urged government staff not to waste power by switching on lights and fans when not needed and turn them off while leaving offices.
