Gold Smugglers Maintain Multiple Contacts. Scrutiny of the passports of those who were detained on Thursday, concerning the smuggling of gold at Shamshabad airport revealed that they had earlier travelled to several cities like Kochi, Kolkata, Chennai and also to Bangladesh.

According to Hyderabad Zone Chief Commissioner of Customs B.B. Prasad, three suspects were frisked at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and were allegedly carrying the gold worth 5 crores. The accused have been detained by the police at around 12.40 am on Friday.
As many as 18 bars have been seized from them, each weighing 1 kg approximately. The culprits have opted for various innovative means to conceal the gold from the authorities. But, they failed to succeed in the game.
During the preliminary investigations, the accused have disclosed that they have carried gold from Singapore and have concealed the same for skipping the customs duty fee. This seizure has been said to be the biggest of its kind of all times, according to sources.
