Godavarikhani (Karimnagar): The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) failed to achieve the production target during the last nine months, said Division-I general manager K Sugunakar Reddy here on Monday.

Addressing the SCCL Foundation Day, he said there were financial problems following the fall in production.

The production cost from last year had gone up to Rs.540 crore. Workmen should note this would pose a burden on SCCL. Reddy said the production policies would be challenging in view of thermal power units going in for their own mining and opting for importsl.

He presented awards to ‘uttam’ workers.

K Mallayya, TGBKS president, Riyaz Ahmed, HMS general secretary, officials Prakash Babu, Ravisudhakar, Seva president Sujani Karunakar Reddy, Damodar Rao, Yadagairi, Sathayya were among those present. Workers registered a strong protest at ‘routine’ holding of the formation day. At another function, RG-II general manager Subhani said ‘devoted ‘SCCL workmen were its real wealth.

He called for steps to reduce production cost even while enhancing safety and protecting the environment.
