  • Former Kadapa mayor transferred the land in his name by submitting forged documents
  • Original owner wins legal battle after 4 years

Hyderabad: Following the AP High Court direction, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Monday razed to the ground the building constructed by Ravindranath Reddy, former mayor of Kadapa and maternal uncle of YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

The High Court ordered demolitionof the building following a petition filed by Neeraja Rao alleging that the buildings constructed at Krishna Nagar in Jubilee Hills, in Hyderabad, encroached 500 sq yd land belonging to the petitioner at Women’s Co-operative Housing Society.

The GHMC officials carried out the HC order amid tight security.

Neeraja told the Hans India, “It was only in 2010 I had noticed that my property was grabbed by submitting forged documents. The property was transferred in the name of the former mayor. My plot was under someone else’s name. The hierarchy at the time which includes ex-additional commissioner K Dhanunjaya Reddy and ex-collector of Hyderabad Navin Mittal have aided in the illegal act. Finally I got justice after four years.”

Neeraja Rao had bought this piece of land in the 1990s and the legal battle for ownership started in 2008. In December 2008, she saw a lot of construction activity taking place on her land. It was only in 2010 she approached the court.

During the period she claimed to have received threats on behalf of Ravindranath Reddy and Jaganmohan Reddy.

In June this year, the GHMC issued a notice and ordered demolition of the building. She made frantic efforts to reach out to the GHMC officials, but they all proved to be evasive. A few political parties supported Neeraja’s move and helped her win the battle.
