Hyderabad: With only two days left for the return of President Pranab Mukherjee to Delhi, several leaders from Telangana met him on Monday and appealed to him to expedite the process of T State.

About 40 TJAC leaders, led by its chairman Prof Kodandaram, called on the President and submitted a representation urging him to see that the process did not get derailed due to the “opportunistic politics” played by Seemandhra leaders.

Apart from briefing him about the history of Telangana statehood, the TJAC chairman underlined how Telangana State would ensure democratisation of the region. Eighty per cent of backward classes, SCs and STs would be benefited with the creation of separate state, he said.

The TJAC delegation thanked Pranab for referring the AP State Reorganization Bill to the State Assembly.

Mallepalli Lakshmaiah, G Deviprasad, C Vittal, Addanki Dayaker, Pittala Ravinder, K Raghu, Kathi Venkataswamy, Venkatesham, Hamid Mohammed Khan, DP Reddy, Krishna Yadav, Rasmai Balkishan, K Ravinder Reddy, Mamatha, Sridhar Deshpande, Manipal Reddy, Mujeeb etc. were part of this delegation.

The CPI delegation, led by state secretary K Narayana, urged him to direct the government to see that the discussion on the Bill took place and the Bill was returned with necessary amendments, within the stipulated time.

Narayana alleged that the Congress, TDP and YSRCP were posing hurdles in the smooth functioning of the State Assembly. He sought the President’s intervention to curtail unhealthy trends, where a political party had two different opinions in two different regions.

The CPI sought Amendment of clause 16 (1) of the Bill for increasing the number of legislators from the present 119 to 153 in Telangana Assembly and an increase of 50 seats in the Assembly of the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh. The party also sought reconstitution of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal II with a new chairman.

It also urged the President to constitute Regional Development Councils for backward regions, special funds for backward districts and inter-state water management boards for maintenance of projects and canals with statutory powers. Former PCC president D Srinivas also met the President.

Sources said that Srinivas briefed Pranab about the political developments taking place in the state since he had referred the draft T Bill to the State Assembly.
