On October 30, 2013, in a tragic accident of Volvo bus, as many as 45 passengers were burnt alive at palem near Mahabubnagar. Just after a few days of that incident another accident took place in Bengaluru.

It is evident that RTA has been carrying out many snap checks at various places on the high ways to catch hold of the private buses, which have been violating the rules. No doubt, it’s a good job undertaken by the RTA department. But, what makes us to think here is why the authorities bother for curative measures and why not for preventive measures. Undoubtedly, the seriousness shown by the RTA authorities is the reaction over Palem incident and not a preventive action to restrain such incidents in future.

A well said English dictum goes this way: “Prevention is better than cure”; also, in this context “a stitch in time, saves nine” surface as another suitable proverb. Why do the authorities, not specifically RTA; but authorities of almost all departments awake only after a great tragic incident? This question bothers many people. Nevertheless, it always remains an answerless question. The sincerity shown by the concerned will last only for sometime, till the time people forget the incident. A better example is Nirbhaya case of New Delhi. Just after a year, everyone forgot the incident; and so will happen with Palem incident.

There is a need for the people who work with sincerity and sense of duty in each and every organization. With such people it’s not only the organization that get laurels, but also the entire society, who would enjoy the fruit. Don’t we remember TN Sheshan? Don’t we remember former CBI JD, Lakshmi Narayana? We remember them just because of their sincerity. At the end of the day, what counts is the life added to the profession and not vice versa. Is it not a point to ponder? Just think…………….!!
