The new department will deal with subjects like Official Language Commission, Telugu Academy, A P Sahitya Academy, A P Lalitha Kala Academy and AP Sangeetha Nataka Janapada Academy, theatre and centre for excellence studies in Indian languages from higher education department

Hyderabad: The State government on Wednesday created a new ‘Department of Language and Culture’ by drawing personnel from various departments including general administration, culture and youth advancement.

The government allocated two each deputy secretaries and assistant secretaries, four section officers, six assistant section officers and three inspecting officers to the new department which would be headed by secretary (culture) under the overall supervision of Special Chief Secretary of youth advancement, tourism and culture department.

The new department would deal with subjects like Official Language Commission, Telugu Academy, A P Sahitya Academy, A P Lalitha Kala Academy and AP Sangeetha Nataka Janapada Academy, theatre and centre for excellence studies in Indian languages from higher education department. Minister for Tourism Vatti Vasant Kumar was given the new portfolio of the new department and the government in its order noted that the new department was constituted to fulfill the promise made by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in the Fourth World Telugu Conference held at Tirupati during December 27-29, 2012.

The new department was incorporated in the first schedule of the Andhra Pradesh Government Business Rules and Secretariat Instructions.
