Justice Naushad Ali of the Andhra Pradesh High court on Thursday closed a contempt case against the State Public Service Commission after the State government informed the court that it had decided to recognise the degrees awarded by the JNTU in the distance education mode.

The judge was dealing with a contempt case filed by persons whose degrees were not recognised by a recruitment notification of the APPSC. The judge had issued interim directions to treat the degrees as valid qualification. Though the matter was taken in appeal the authorities withdrew the appeal. Today with the government informing the court that it would recognise the said degrees, the contempt case was closed. The order would come as relief to thousands of in-house government employees.
