CM rules out floating new party

Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy ruled out the possibility of floating a new political party. In an informal chat with the media in his Assembly chambers here on Saturday, he said he learnt about his intentions to launch a new political party from the media.

"My floating a party is a figment of the media's imagination. I had a good laugh after going through the reports. I have been born and brought up in the Congress. Our family has fought 12 elections on the party nomination after independence," he said.

When asked if that were the case why did he tell some leaders that he would convene a brain storming session, Kiran replied that when he visited East Godavari district recently some of the Congress MLAs expressed their apprehension about their political future in the wake of the Centre's decision on the Telangana issue.

“I asked them to wait till January 23 to discuss about such issues. I never told them that I would launch a new party. I only asked them to wait till January 23,’’ he added.

Asked if he agreed with the claim of Telangana Congress leaders that the State division would help the Congress win more seats in the region in 2014 elections and whether elections would be held in united Andhra Pradesh or in two states, he answered, "I am not a predictor. No one can predict accurately. Even a small incident can change the poll results.”

Reacting to the allegation of corruption made by former Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the Chief Minister said, "My term as Chief Minister to this day is an open book. Those making allegations against me should come out with proofs. They can even go to the court"
