Hyderabad: To woo the women folk, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday announced a slew of freebies including waiver of loans taken by Self Help Groups (SHGs) and constitution of ‘Srinidhi’ for the empowerment of women, if his party was voted to power in 2014 polls. In an open letter to women ahead of Sankranti festival, he said that for the empowerment of women his party would provide additional loans to SHGs and waive the loans taken by them immediately after his party came to power. “Dwacra Bazaars in every mandal headquarters will be established to provide marketing facilities to their products and resolve cooking gas and drinking water crisis,’’ the letter added.

The TDP leader alleged that the SHGs fell in debt trap as the State government failed to provide sufficient funds in the last 10 years. Holding the government responsible for the increasing atrocities against women, Naidu promised that special women police system would be constituted under the aegis of IG range women police official. He would implement the Nirbhaya and Domestic Violence Acts in true spirit to curb violence on women. Expressing serious concern over increasing deaths of people addicted to liquor, he assured that all the belt shops would be removed in the villages and would protect the lives of poor from the social menace.
