Sixth PYKKA National Tournament inaugurated

Mahabubnagar: Steps would be taken to construct a mini-stadium here, Information and Public Relations Minister D K Aruna announced here on Tuesday.

She was speaking after inaugurating the Sixth Swami Vivekananda Panchayat Yuva Kreeda Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) 2013-14 National-level Rural Tournaments at the District Stadium Grounds.

The Minister said steps would be taken to provide basic amenities like toilets and drinking water in the stadium grounds. The Government has allocated Rs 200 crore for giving a boost to sports.

She stated that to encourage rural sports/sportsmen in the district, 13 stadium grounds were taken up in all constituencies.

Besides, 266 PYKKA building were constructed. The Government released funds to develop school playgrounds and for creating sports infrastructure.

Aruna said the district was hosting the National PYKKA Games for the first time. She appreciated the district administration for conducting such a big event. The PYKKA tournaments would inculcate sportive spirit among rural sportsmen. Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Sports Authority of AP Rahul Bojja observed that sportsmen would get wonderful opportunities at PYKKA.

District Collector M Girija Shankar said elaborate arrangements were made for the smooth conduct of tournaments, without giving any room for complaints from sportsmen and officials.

Superintendent of Police P Nagendrakumar, MLC Jagadeeshwar Reddy and Mahabubngar MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy, District Olympic association President A P Jitendar Reddy spoke. As many as 1,400 sportsmen and 600 officials from 21 States are participating.

They included national players Jamaluddin, Ram Reddy, Geeta, Lavanya Reddy, Shankar.

Earlier, the participants conducted march-past with the tricolour, which was followed by folk dances. The administration has provided accommodation to the participants at nine places for boys and girls separately.

Joint Collector L Sharman, Trainee Assistant Collector Vijayarama Raju, AJC Dr P Rajaram, ZP CEO Ravinder, DSDO Sridhar were present.
