Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) officials led by Managing Director NVS Reddy and L&T Metro Rail officials on Thursday visited the Hajj House (Nampally) - New Market (Malakpet) stretch to take stock of the progress of the ongoing metro rail work and to find ways to speed up the process. HMR has decided to remove barricades at the highly contentious Moazzam Jahi Market stretch for smooth flow of traffic.

Speaking to the media, HMR MD NVS Reddy informed that five more piers would be constructed to the existing ones and would put up low-level barricades for the easy passage of traffic at Osmania Medical College (OMC).

“On several points along the stretch, fruit vendors and petty traders would be removed and undulating portions of the road would be levelled so that two-wheelers can move,” he added.

A senior official of HMR said it would not wait for GHMC to take up the road work and would do it all by itself.

“At Putlibowli road, there are electricity poles that are an obstruction. The poles would be relocated inside the OMC. A1 boundary wall has already been constructed inside the OMC. The sweater stalls that are on the road would not be touched at the moment but they would have to vacate once the piers are built,” said an official. Meanwhile, The Chaderghat school building, which is being constructed by HMR at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore, would be completed in 18 months. The construction started on January 1. At present the school is being run in a rented building for which HMR is bearing the rent of Rs 1.35 lakh per month.
