Hyderabad: The AP Power Employees Joint Action Committee (APPEJAC) on Tuesday served a strike notice on the four power utilities

(APCPDCL, EPDCL, NPDCL and SPDCL), demanding that they solve the long-pending issues with regard to pay-scales, regularisation of contract workers and free medical facilities to all the employees. The JAC delegation led by AP Electricity Engineers Union (APEEU) president J Seetarama Reddy submitted strike notice to APTransco Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Chanda.

The JAC leaders demanded that the pay revision with effect from January 4, 2014, be concluded before the announcement of general election poll code. They also sought extension of pension benefits to those recruited after January 2, 1999, on a par with state government employees.

The employees also oppose entrusting power sector activities on franchisee basis and its privatization. They seek creation of additional posts in all cadres as per work load norms and abolition of contract system.

Announcing a month-long agitation, the JAC leader said that the employees would hold circle and generating station-level dharnas on February 6, pen down and tool down strike on February 7, company-level dharna on February 10, and ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ on February 17. February 18 onwards, they would take up direct action.
