Hyderabad: For the first time after 1999, the State would witness elections to Rajya Sabha as only one of the two Congress rebel candidates has withdrawn from the contest as the deadline for the withdrawal of nominations ended on Friday afternoon. Congress circles feel that the party high command has not put in serious efforts to see that the rebels withdraw from the contest. The high command has just left the task to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

After two rounds of meetings with K V V Satyanarayana Raju, Kiran succeeded in convincing him to pull out, but another rebel candidate Adala Prabhakar refused to do so. According to Prabhakar, the Chief Minister had put pressure on him to withdraw, but he did not give any assurance. “I only told him that I would consider his request.” This development has put the Congress party on tenterhooks as the rebel candidate might affect the chances of the candidates.
