Tirupati: The unveiling of the statue of N P Chengalrayalu Naidu at Bangarupalem on Sunday witnessed an interesting scene of prominent Congress leaders including Minister for Mines and Geology Galla Aruna Kumari sharing dais with their arch-rivals TDP leaders including its chief N Chandrababu Naidu.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes amid strong speculations that Aruna Kumari’s son Galla Jayadev intends to join TDP and is even preparing ground for contesting from Guntur on TDP ticket in LS elections.
What is more intriguing is that the Minister sat through the meeting silently even as Naidu made a blistering attack on the Congress party as also the Central and the State governments, much to the elation of the crowd. Naidu did not even spare AICC general secretary in charge of AP affairs, Digvijay Singh, and accused him of scripting , along with K Chandrasekhar Rao, the merger of TRS with Congress after the election. The Minister who first spoke confined herself to eulogising Chengalrayalu Naidu for his contribution to the district and his association with her father. She said that though they seemed different poles and rivals in politics, they maintained healthy relations, unlike the present-day political leaders.
Her presence at the TDP function was seen against the backdrop of Seemandhra leaders scurrying for greener pastures as they have been under all-out attack by Samaikyandra protagonists.
In fact Aruna’s father Rajagopal Naidu was the mentor of Chandrababu Naidu when the latter was in Congress before joining the TDP.
With the TDP having a strong base in Chittoor district, many Congress leaders who for one reason or other are averse to joining YSRCP are looking towards the TDP to safeguard their future.
This apart, another senior Congress leader and MLA G Kuthuhalamma, whose son is also trying for TDP ticket, Chittoor MLA C K Babu, Puthalapattu MLA Ravi were also with the Minister. The bonhomie was clearly perceptible, pointing to interesting turn of events in the offing.
