T Bill debate to be taken up today

New Delhi: Seemandhra protests peaked in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. K V P Ramachandra Rao (Cong) and Y S Chowdhury and C M Ramesh (TDP) remained in the Well, holding placards and raising slogans of “Save Andhra Pradesh.” Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien was guarded by six marshals who prevented the TDP members moving closer to the podium.

High drama was witnessed with Kurien shouting "shut up" at a disrupting member, who shouted it right back. It happened just after C M Ramesh pushed Secretary General Shumsher K Sheriff and snatched some papers from him. He ended up accidentally hitting Sheriff on the chin. Ramesh also had an argument with House Chairman Hamid Ansari. As the Seemandhra MPs were protesting, G Sudha Rani (TDP), who is from Telangana, entered the Well with a placard, “We demand Telangana Bill in Parliament.” It was competitive protest demonstrations in the Well.

Samajwadi Party MPs were also in the Well seeking a resolution to condemn the black out of Lok Sabha proceedings during the passage the controversial Telangana bill.

BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu appealed to Kurien to direct the government to bring the House to order.

At 2 pm, there was an expectation in the House that the Bill would be tabled. There were successive adjournments in the Rajya Sabha from 2 pm onwards. An adjournment was up to 3 pm, then till4 pm, and finally till 5 pm, when it was finally adjourned for the day, without the Telangana Bill being brought to the Rajya Sabha.
