Hyderabad: In future, tourists visiting South India may not have to pay separate tax while criss-crossing States -- Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union Territory of Puducherry -- as is the case now. Common fee for inter-state road transport and demand for small aircraft and one-stop clearance for all travel-related matters are some of the issues to be taken up by the Southern Zonal Tourism Advisory Council (SZTAC) which was set up in September 2013.

SZTAC was set up under the World Travel & Tourism Council, India Initiative (WTTCII), with an aim to promote tourism with agreement of the States which are members in the council -- Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, and UTs Lakshadweep, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Island.

Speaking to presspersons, Chandana Khan, Special Chief Secretary (Tourism), said, “Joint publicity promotion of southern States at international fairs and removal of bottlenecks for tourists visiting the region would go a long way in boosting tourism.” Sujit Banerjee, secretary general, WTTCII said, “Our aim is to resolve issues that hamper tourism in southern States. Excise issues, access and connectivity to destinations especially to tier II cities and joint publicity would be taken up in a big way.”
