Hyderabad: The Central cabinet’s move to transfer more than 250 villages in Bhadrachalam division in Khammam to Seemandhra was stonewalled following strong objection by S Jaipal Reddy, Union Minister for Science and Technology.

It is learnt that Reddy registered his strong protest with the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against this proposal. He is learnt to have said that Sileru power projects and a part of Sabri River were part of the division and hence the proposal should be withdrawn.

Reddy’s contention was that the government should not recommend issuing an ordinance even before the Bill to divide the State was signed by the President. He felt that it amounts to encroachment on the powers of Parliament under Article 3 of the constitution. Following this, the proposal to transfer over 250 villages was dropped from the agenda.

However, the Central cabinet took some key decision in regard to Telangana and Seemandhra and announced some sops for both the region like approval for 54 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) during 12th Plan which includes seven for Telangana and three for Seemandhra.
