Medak: Congress and TRS are leaving no stone unturned in consolidating their hold in the district and gearing up for the civic polls. The main contest will be between them, as the impact of other parities like the TDP, BJP, YSRCP and Left will be nominal.

Elections are to be held to Sangareddy, Medak, Zaheerabad, Sadashivpet municipalities and Jogipet, Andhol and Gajwel Nagar Panchayats. Due to legal tangles poll to Siddipet, Chegunta and Dubbaka municipalities have been postponed.

As these are the first elections after the formation of Telangana, both parties have accorded top priority to them. They are not taking any chances, as the poll will be an acid test to the ticket aspirants for the ensuing general elections. They have to prove their influence by getting their followers or party members elected to the civic bodies. It is an open secret that failure to ensure victory of party candidates in municipal poll would derail the future of candidates.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, Sangareddy MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy, Dr J Geeta Reddy, ex-Minister, are leaving no stone unturned to ensure victory of their supporters.

But the infighting in the Congress, leading to division of votes, is likely to benefit the TRS. As Siddipet Municipal election has been postponed, T Harish Rao, MLA, is expected to supervise the poll campaign. Whatever may be the outcome, it will have far-reaching consequences.
