Telangana Bill passed in parliament due to efforts of Sonia Gandhi: Jairam, Jairam Ramesh, Telangana. The TRS leaders had assured that they would make a Dalit leader as chief minister after realization of Telangana State.

Karimnagar: Union Minister Jairam Ramesh reiterated that the Bill for separate Telangana had been passed in both the Houses of parliament only due to strenuous efforts of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

He addressed a press conference here on Monday. Jairam Ramesh condemned the TRS for taking credit for creation of Telangana State. ``The separate Telangana Bill was passed in both the Houses of parliament only with the support (resolve) from the Congress members. TRS should keep in mind that it had no strength in Rajya Sabha for the passage of Bill in the House,’’ the Union Minister pointed out.

The TRS leaders had assured that they would make a Dalit leader as chief minister after realization of Telangana State. However, after the passage of Bill in parliament, the leaders have changed their stance in this regard. It was the Congress party which made Damo daram Sanjivaiah (a Dalit) as chief minister 50 years ago,’’ the Minister said. After the general elections, Congress would make a Dalit leader as chief minister of Telangana, Jairam Ramesh assured.

The Centre would extend certain concessions for establishing industries in the backward regions of Telangana and Seemandhra states. He said that the Centre would have consultations with the leaders of Joint Action Committees (JACs) of both the states on March 18. ``If any leader from Telangana JAC comes forward to contest polls, Congress would consider his candidature,’’ Jairam Ramesh assured. There would not be any discrimination against any region. Both the states would be developed only if Congress comes to power, the Congress leader indicated.

State capital Hyderabad which provides maximum annual income was allocated to Telangana State. To compensate the loss, a special package was announced to Seemandhra, he said. AICC SC Cell president Koppula Raju, former minister D Sridhar Babu, MP Ponnam Prabhakar, and Chalmeda Lakshminarasimha Rao were present.
