Vijayawada: Former Chief Minister and ‘Jai Samaikyandhra Party’ president N Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed confidence that the Third Front would undo the bifurcation carried out against the federal spirit of the Constitution by the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Speaking at a ‘Meet-The-Press’ programme here on Saturday organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ), Mr Reddy alleged that there was a nexus between the Congress and the BJP on bifurcation. “The Congress and the BJP have carried out the bifurcation using Article 3 of the Constitution,” he said and expressed confidence that the Third Front would scrap the Article. “Parliament should not consider bifurcation of any of the existing States unless there is consent from the State concerned for which Article 3 has to be withdrawn,” he said.

Mr Reddy further said that the constituents of the Third Front, including the Left, condemned the way the Andhra Pradesh bifurcation was carried out in Parliament and were opposing the use of Article 3. The CPM, Samajwadi Party, Trinamul Congress, BJD, Lok Dal, DMK, Akali Dal and other parties were against the use of Article 3 in future, he said and asserted that the Third Front would undo the bifurcation.

Referring to the post-bifurcation problems in the State, the former Chief Minister said Telangana would suffer on power, water, employment and industrial fronts. Districts like Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medak and Mahabubnagar would suffer with industries being closed or no new industries coming up. He feared that the IT industry would move out of Hyderabad making thousands of youths jobless. He said Telangana had also lost its share of surplus water in Krishna river and it would jeopardise the irrigation system in the state.

Mr Reddy said he would continue to expose the Congress-BJP nexus and wanted the people to support the ‘Jai Samaikyandhra Party’ in the elections to teach a fitting lesson to both the parties.

APUWJ president D Somasundar and vice-president Ambati Anjaneyulu were present at the meeting.
