Vijayawada: The police from the Krishna and Guntur districts are put on high alert as the chief minister-designate N Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to take his oath of office here on May 8. The Telugu Desam chief had finally zeroed in on the sprawling ground opposite to the Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) for his swearing-in ceremony. Interestingly it was on this ground that Chandrababu Naidu had held Yuva Garjana on November 5, 2008, just before the 2009 Assembly elections. The success of this meet had helped the TD win a good number of Assembly seats in both Krishna and Guntur districts in that election, though the party had lost in the State. Considering this success, the TD had finalised the venue for swearing-in ceremony.

The Guntur district police have temporarily put up sheds at this ground providing security for the proposed event. The TD leaders are likely to visit the ground in a day or two and start making arrangements for the mega event as the party is returning to power after a gap of 10 years. Chandrababu Naidu is also creating history by becoming the first Chief Minister of the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh, after the Center had carved out Telangana State, ending a decade-long struggle by the people under the leadership of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

Besides providing temporary security for the venue, the police from the two districts are also providing security arrangements at all the government offices in both Vijayawada and Guntur cities and the Gannavarama airport. The elected Telugu Desam legislators are expected to reach the city much in advance and stay in various guest houses in Vijayawada, which are being readied now.

Meanwhile, the TD MPs from Krishna and Guntur districts have reportedly promised the party chief that they would make the event a memorable one. As the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the event, the TD leaders have decided to give their best in making the arrangements and also providing facilities for the party activists and leaders who were expected to be present.
