Rajahmundry: NTR Sujala Sravanthi programme in which 25 liters of clean water would be provided for Rs 2 for each family in the state would kick off from October 2, AP Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, N Chinarajappa said here today. He inaugurated a drinking water tank built as part of protected drinking water supply scheme which has been taken up with Rs 31 crore in Pithapuram town in East Godavari on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chinarajappa has informed that the state cabinet has approved the NTR Sujala Sravanthi programme in order to provide clean drinking water to the people of the state. He mentioned that the scheme would be implemented by setting up one drinking water unit with an expenditure of Rs 5.75 lakh in each village and town and added that the State Government has taken this decision as existing protected drinking water supply schemes and comprehensive protected drinking water schemes are not able to cater the needs of the state. The Home Minister reiterated that the State Government is committed to waive the loans of the farmers and added that the CM went to the national capital on two-day visit to discuss this issue with the Centre.
