Two days after the Telangana government inked an agreement for purchasing power from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh government has also got a firm commitment from the neighbouring State to get 100 MW of power from Karnataka from July 1.

Orders have been placed for 300 MW (100 MW from Karnataka, 200 MW from Tamil Nadu), out of which 100 MW from Karnataka will start flowing in from July. For the balance 200 MW efforts are being made at highest level to get consent from Tamil Nadu for supply of power, State Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will hold the high level meet exclusively on Energy Efficiency in next one or two days.

The Chief Minister will give a road map to the Secretaries and other key departments on energy efficiency and energy saving measures, so that at least 15-20 percent of energy can be saved. The Chief Minister has also directed that a mechanism should be developed to involve all the key departments like Industries, MA&UD, Agriculture, Rural Water Scheme, etc. to fix the accountability in achieving the desired goals of energy savings for which state and stakeholders will get benefit to a larger extent.

At present, the utilities are supplying only 125 MU (million units) as against the demand of 148 MU with a deficit of 23 MU in the AP. Briefing the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu about the steps being taken to procure power from the neighbouring states, the official said a letter would be forwarded to the TN Chief minister Jayalalithaa soon, urging her to supply 200 MW power to the State from next month.

Explaining the energy efficiency measures adopted for the optimum use of power to the CM, he said the Energy Efficient Services Limited (EESL) has come forward to upgrade the public lighting infrastructure with the LEDs in the entire State on a revenue sharing basis.

As part the strategy, the Chief Minister would hold a high level meet exclusively on energy efficiency shortly and is expected to give a road map to the SECM (State Energy Conservation Mission) and other key departments on energy savings measures which will help in savings of around at least 15 to 20 per cent of energy in future. State Secretary (Energy) Ajay Jain, APGENCO CMD K Vijayanand and other officials were also present.
