Paying rich tributes to the departed legendary at the memorial meeting organised by VUDA at Gurajada Kalakshetram on Wednesday, they said Bapu has left his footprints to be followed by generations together in certain areas of human life, especially the Telugu people. The in-charge Vice-Chairman of VUDA and GVMC Commissioner M V Satyanarayana, noted film actor and writers Gollapudi Maruti Rao, Kasi Viswanath, Vankayala Satyanarayana Murthy, ‘Kallu’ Chidambaram, Vizag Prasad, cine director Satyasri, Visakhapatnam Bar Association President J Prithviraj, VUDA secretary GC Kishore Kumar and others attended the programme.

Civic commissioner Satyanarayana announced installation of Bapu and Mullapudi Venkata Ramana statues at RK Beach here. While praising the contributions of Bapu, he said the legend was a brand ambassador for Telugu people. Bapu remains eternal as long as the Telugu script and language remain as one of the Telugu fonts is named after him as ‘Bapu font’. The creativity of Bapu in cartooning, movie making, painting or any other area has become role model and path showing, he said.

Gollapudi Maruti Rao described Bapu as an encyclopedia and store house of versatility. The legendary is always worshipped as an ultimate Guru by artists and cartoonists for his unique nature of creation, he said. Bapu has made as many as 51 films in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil and all these have contributed for spreading of human, social and ethical values in society, he added. No other director has filmed the Ramayana as was done by Bapu, Gollapudi said.

Bapu is eligible for all awards such as Dada Saheb Phalke, but was conferred only Padmasri, VUDA secretary Kishore Kumar felt.

The Visakhapatnam Bar Association President J Prithviraj said the life and achievements of Bapu are ideal to mankind and the friendship between Bapu and Ramana is a path to be followed by everyone.

Film actors Vankayala Satyanarayana Murthy, Kallu Chidambaram and Vizag Prasad recalled their association with Bapu. Chidambaram said the cartoons by Bapu on wife and husband, Budugu and Gnana Pesaunamba were the icons of cartoon art. Another film director Satyasri who worked under Bapu for many movies, said Bapu always looked at promotion of ethical and human values through movies.

Ravi Dharma Rao, Meegada Ramalinga Swamy and others spoke.

Visakhapatnam Cartoonists Association representatives BS Raju, Raghu, Sarkar, Badamgir Sai, Durga Prasad of Meher Padmalaya Films and others participated. The programme was conducted by VUDA PRO B Prabhakara Reddy and the general secretary of Creative Comedy Club Meda Mastan Reddy coordinated the meeting.
