Peddapuram (East Godavari): Three persons, including a patient, Kathati Sathibabu (27) of Singampalli, in Rangampet mandal, travelling in a 108 ambulance, were killed when an RTC bus rammed the vehicle at ADB Road here on Thursday. Sathibabu died instantly. The bus was going from Kakinada to Rajahmundry.

Ambulance driver, Medishetty Srinivasa Rao (38), and a technician of the hospital, Umashankar, were the others who lost their lives in the mishap that occurred on the Peddapuram-Rajahmundry road, near the mushrooms factory. Four youths travelling in the bus were seriously injured, while ten others suffered bruises. While Rao died on the way to the Kakinada hospital, Umashankar succumbed to the injuries later.

The injured were initially treated at the Peddapuram area hospital and later shifted to Kakinada for emergency medical care.

Anadhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chinarajappa, who visited the accident spot, directed R & B Superintending Engineer C S S Murthy to initiate steps to prevent such mishaps on the ADB Road. He was informed by the police that a report on more accidents occurring on the road has been sent to the R & B department.

The Minister telephoned the SE, who said that vehicles were skidding on the road when drivers applied brakes after crossing 80 km speed, leading to accidents. Murthy stated that there was a need to make the road rough, requiring Rs.8 lakh.

Rajappa said he would take up the issue with the RTC managing director. Accident prevention measures were launched at every junction on the road at a cost of Rs.15 crore. He asked tahsildar to extend the ‘Apadbandhu’ schemes to the victims’ relatives. Efforts would be made to extend assistance to them from the CM’s Relief Fund.
