Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Ministry of Social Welfare is making efforts to provide overseas education to 1,000 students from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe under Dr B R Amedkar Overseas Vidyanidhi, according to Minister Ravella Kishore Babu.

Speaking on the occasion of the completion of 100 days of his department here on Thursday, the minister said the scheme would be available for only USA, UK, Australia, Canada, and Singapore. SC students whose family income is less than Rs.2.00 lakh per annum from all sources are eligible for the scheme.

About 33 percent would be reserved for women and the total amount Rs 10 lakh would be paid to each candidate for tuition fee and accommodation. The students would be eligible for Rs 5 lakh bank loan, he said.

He said 998 laptops and biometric machines were given to Social Welfare Officers in the first phase and more officers would get in the later phases.

The department is also launching Credit Guarantee Scheme for the interested SC, ST micro and small entrepreneurs in the State. An amount of Rs 522 crore was sanctioned for various welfare schemes for the benefit of 1.25 lakh beneficiaries. And those below the poverty line would get freebies during Dussara and Diwali.

The Minister said during last 100 days, the department could enrol 1.25 lakh in the hostels and of them, 25,600 were admitted into class 5 and Intermediate courses. About 3,238 students were admitted into private colleges under Corporate College Scheme for studying Intermediate.

These students belong to SC, ST, BC and Minority hostels in the State.
