Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government would store up to 40 tmc ft of water in Pulichintala project without causing any loss of life of livestock, said Minister for Irrigation Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said both the Chief Secretaries met recently and sorted out the issue. What had come out in the media stating Andhra Pradesh conceded to Telangana demand and agreed to reduce water level to 7.5 tmc ft, was wrong, he said.

“We have agreed to compensate for the losses and rehabilitation and will continue to do so till we raised the water level to 40 tmc ft,” the Minister said.

He blamed the successive chief ministers in the previous government - K Rosaiah and N Kiran Kumar Reddy - who kept the water level to 3 tmc ft only.

Dr K L Rao Sagar Pulichintala Project on river Krishna was commissioned before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh with a total storage capacity of 45 tmc ft of water. Part of submergence under the reservoir is in Nalgonda district of Telangana and the other part is in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Regarding Polavaram, for which discussions were held between Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Chattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh in Raipur on Monday, the Minister said the discussions were fruitful and the Chief Minister explained in details the advantage of completing the project early.

The Minister, who was also present in the talks, said discussions would also be held with Odisha government soon.
