Businessman-turned-politician Sujana Chowdary's transformation from an aggressive entrepreneur to a political leader has been impressive

Y S ChowdaryHyderabad: Industrialist-turned-politician Yalamanchili Satyanarayana alias Sujana Chowdary's close proximity to Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has earned him a berth in the Union Cabinet and has helped the State to have two Ministers at the Centre.

The AP government feels that this would speed up the process of getting the benefits the Centre had promised to the State in the AP State Re-Organisation Act, 2014. Sujana came closer to Naidu when the latter was the Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh between 1995 and 2004 and was considered as one of the main fundraisers for the party and was more of a backroom boy of TDP. Since 2010, the 53-year-old Sujana rose in party's hierarchy when Naidu in recognition of his contribution to the party, offered him a Rajya Sabha seat. He had also played a prominent role in opposing the division of the State as MP. In the post-bifurcation scenario too, Sujana has been playing a very major role.

Sujana Chowdary hails from Krishna district in coastal Andhra and belongs to Khamma community. Born in 1961, in a well-educated family of government officers, Chowdary did his Master's in Engineering and soon after he established his own business of manufacturing fans.

Continuing the success he gained in his first business, he established Sujana Group of Companies, ventured and expanded into different areas of engineering and services. A successful entrepreneur, Chowdary's group grew with over 6,000 employees and an annual turnover of $3 billion and the diversified group was ranked as one of the top 10 expanding groups of companies in India in July, 2011.
