The Navy chief cut short his tour in Seychelles and rushed back to India on Sunday. He told the reporters that all technical aspects were checked by the commanding chief of the vessel before it sailed to carry out the torpedo tests. “It was completely fit and all the rumours about the vessel are false,” he said. He also denied that it carried more personnel than the designated capacity.

He said the Navy would carry out on the search and rescue operations to trace out the four naval personnel who have gone missing in the mishap involving the TRV which sank off the coast of Visakhapatnam on Thursday night. Dhowan said the Navy would help and render assistance to the family members of sailor James Jacob, who was killed in the mishap. A board of inquiry headed by a Captain was in progress to investigate into the circumstances leading to the mishap, Dhowan added.

The Navy Chief along with his officials of Eastern Naval Command visited the family of Shishir Kumar Y, a weapon’s officer of the Naval Armament Inspection Office of Eastern Naval Command attached to NSTL. He is one among the four missing persons at Kirlampudi Layout area in the city. He later interacted with the Shishir Kumar’s wife Rohin Kumar and his family members and he also visited the family members of dead sailor James Jacob at MVP Colony area in the city.
