1.5-cr red sanders seized
In a major operation, Srikalahasthi police with the assistance of Task Force nabbed 84 red sanders smugglers and seized a huge haul of 60 red sanders logs and seven vehicles near Srikalahasthi on Thursday night.
Tirupati: In a major operation, Srikalahasthi police with the assistance of Task Force nabbed 84 red sanders smugglers and seized a huge haul of 60 red sanders logs and seven vehicles near Srikalahasthi on Thursday night. Disclosing this to the media here on Friday, Tirupati Urban Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) V Subba Reddy said acting on a tip-off, Srikalahasthi police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police D Venkata Kishore along with his men launched a search operation leading to the nabbing of red sanders smuggles.
The arrested included woodcutters from Villupuram, Salem, Dharmapuri, Vellore and Tiruvannamalia in Tamil Naud, he said. The seven vehicles seized include a tipper, a heavy duty truck, five SUVs and a two-wheeler. The seized red sanders weighed 5 tonnes, estimated to be worth Rs 1.5 core, Subba Reddy said. Police suspected that the red sanders operatives had been travelling on Kadapa-Renigunta route now as the Forest Department officials with the help of the police intensified patrolling on Kadapa-Srikalahasti road leading to Tamil Nadu.
