Hyderabad: A two judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising of Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and PV Sanjay Kumar disposed of two writ pleas making allegations of illegal sand mining in West Godavari district. Dealing with a writ plea filed by D Muneshwara Rao to prevent quarry and transporting of sand from reaches near Polavaram mandal, the bench said it was for the petitioner to make a representation to the local authorities and they act in accordance with law.

Dealing with a similar writ petition filed in Nellore district, the bench pointed out that the petitioner did not file the relevant material and left it open to the petitioner to file a fresh petition with relevant documents. D Chenchu Kiran Kumar of Nellore complained that the said activity required environmental clearance as prescribed under the Environmental Impact Assessment Notification and was being carried out without such clearance.
