Sattenapalli (Guntur): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday made an impassioned plea to the people to help carry forward the mission of 'Swachh Andhra Pradesh' to its logical conclusion. The mission included building toilets in every rural household. He said building of individual toilets would be completed in all districts in three months. Naidu promised to ensure that there was no shortage of LPG by utilising the gas grid.

Kick-starting the campaign here, Naidu said his government was determined to make the State free of open “defecation.” Satthenappali is the home constituency of Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao. He launched the “Swachh Sattenapalli” three months ago.

The Chief Minister urged Sivaprasada Rao to act as the brand ambassador for “Swachh Andhra Pradesh” and realise the dream of making the State free of open defecation, particularly in rural areas.

He lauded the Speaker for his commendable achievement in ensuring that 20,000 toilets were built in his constituency with a missionary zeal..

Naidu, who arrived here one hour behind schedule at 12.15 pm by a helicopter, drove straight to Kankanalapalle village in Sattenapalli mandal and interacted with the residents. He also interacted with women at Irukupalem and addressed a meeting.

At Kankanalapalle the Chief Minister said the government would set up an animal hostel where community dairying can be carried out on a common two acres of land. He said instead of each household raising a cow and wasting their energy, all cows can be raised at a common place and one or two persons can be entrusted with the responsibility of raising the animals and selling milk. Addressing small meetings in Kankanalapalle and Irukupalle, he observed that the “days of physical labour have come to an end. All that matters is using skills and intelligence to earn money.”

When Naidu asked women to choose the name of the mission, the overwhelmingly response was "Atma Gouravam." He later announced at the Sattenapalli meeting that the mission building toilets would hereafter be called "Athma Gouravam Mission."

The Chief Minister expressed concern over farmers’ suicides triggered by indebtedness. The National Sample Survey has suggested that 95 per cent of farmers were groaning under the burden of indebtedness. Naidu said he was also a farmer and he would do everything to rescue farmers and relieve them of indebtedness by ensuring repayment of their loans and interest. by the government. He also promised to improve soil fertility by enriching farm lands with infusion of micro-nutrients.

He claimed to have received praise from the people, particularly women, for increasing pensions five fold . As many as 40 lakh pensioners were benefited, the Chief Minister stated. He complimented district Collector Kantilal Dande and his team of officers for working closely with the mission of Sivaprasada Rao. He asked all MLAs, MPs and civic bodies, besides officials to work for "Swachh Guntur" complete the mission by March next. Panchayat Raj Minister Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, Agriculture Minister P Pulla Rao, MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, Government Chief Whip Nannapaneni Rajakumari and MLAs of the district attended all meetings of the Chief Minister.
