Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh State government has ratified six new schemes for the development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the State. In a marathon six-and-half-hour long meeting of the State Council for the Development of SC’s and ST’s held here on Saturday, the government approved the schemes to empower people from these two sections so that they can become entrepreneurs and start small and medium scale industries.

Ravela Kishore BabuDisclosing this, State Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu said the six schemes cover Credit Guarantee, Venture Capital, Contractors Development, Entrepreneur Development, Margin Money, Supply and Diversity programmes. Status of per capita income, literacy, employment opportunities and Infant mortality and maternal mortality rates among the SC and ST population in the State has been reviewed.

The Minister said providing housing, drinking water, link roads in SC and ST colonies, electricity were identified as important aspects for which the officials were asked to prepare long-term and year-wise district and department-wise plans. This was to enhance the life expectance and living standards of the people from these communicates, he added.

Another important aspect that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials was to identify the converging areas among different departments in implementing SC and ST sub-plan, and use the technology wherever necessary. And to ensure proper match and linking of Central and State programme funds for the benefit of these marginalised communities.

It was also decided to give a grant of Rs 50,000 in case of a girl child for ST’s and also to distribute a kit containing necessary to take care of ST children to arrest the child mortality rates among them. Converting existing residential hostels into residential schools, opening up computer labs, incubation and knowledge centers in about 137 residential schools were among those important decisions that were taken during the meeting.
