Kakinada (East Godavari): Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa has said Kakinada Beach Festival would be held in the beach resorts of Vakalapudi near here for three days starting from January 10.

Reviewing the arrangements for the festival at the Collectorate here on Monday, he said that the event was aimed at promoting culture, tourism and rural folk arts.

Efforts would be made to promote rural folk arts and culture of the district in this festival, he said.

Informing that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would also be invited for this festival, the Deputy CM instructed the officials to make elaborate arrangements for this festival to attract tourists from other places of the State. He directed them to regulate traffic by deploying sufficient forces so that tourists would face no inconvenience during their visit.


Chinarajappa suggested the officials to organise special food courts reflecting the traditional foods of the district. He asked them to organise special competitions like dog show and other animal shows.

District Collector Neetu Prasad who presided over the meeting said that nearly Rs 60 lakh would be spent on organising the beach festival. Out of this amount, a sum of Rs 50 lakh would be mobilised from corporate companies under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The remaining Rs 10 lakh would be contributed by the tourism department, she said.

The Collector informed that kite festival and youth festival involving students of various States pursuing studies in the district would be conducted in the beach festival.

Traditional art forms of the district, classical and semi-classical art forms would also be encouraged during this festival. Preparation of large dosa with the cooperation of hoteliers in the district to break earlier records and to organise special food court on district traditional food items were also planned for this festival, she added.

MP Thota Narashimham, ZP Chairperson N Rambabu, MLAs V Venkateswara Rao, P Anatha Lakshmi, V Jogeswara Rao and others were present.
