Nine dowry deaths were reported in 2013, 14 in 2014; harassment cases from 139 in 2013 to 347 in 2014; 32 rapes were registered in 2013, while the number has gone up to 51 in 2014; 49 kidnap cases were reported in 2013 and 78 in 2014.

The SP, who reviewed the crime rate in the district on Tuesday, disclosed that they would contain crime rate in the district in the New Year.

Addressing the media, he said they would give top priority for the safety of children and women. Police surveillance will be kept at schools, colleges and important institutions. Similarly, special teams would be set up to solve traffic problems in the district headquarters and municipal towns, he said.

He expressed happiness for conducting elections in 2014 sans any untoward incident. “Special measures will be taken for creating understanding and bonding between the people and police,” the SP said. Village officers system would be strengthened in 2015 and see that that every officer would visit the villages to redress the grievances of the people.
