Kakinada (East Godavari): District Collector Neetu Prasad has expressed displeasure over bankers for their reluctance in issuing consent letters to units sanctioned by SC and BC corporations. She was speaking at a review meeting with bankers and officials at the Collectorate here on Wednesday. The Collector deplored the bankers’ attitude towards the poor. She warned that a complaint would be lodged with State-level Bankers Committee if the loans sanctioned by SC and BC corporations were cancelled. She directed the officials and bankers to ensure grounding of all units sanctioned by the corporations.

The Collector told the officials to ensure 100 per cent construction of individual toilets in 154 villages in 25 mandals located on the banks of River Godavari under the Swachh Godavari scheme. She said that the Banks issued consent letters to 644 of the 6,188 units’ target of SC Corporation and instructed the officials to issue consent letters to the remaining 5,444 units by the end of January. Officials were told to select beneficiaries for 11,829 units, set as target by BC Corporation. She asked the officials to sanction 68,000 toilets in the district under Swachh Bharat. She noted that Pithapuram and Upplaguptam stood first and last respectively in construction of individual toilets. The officials were told to construct solid and liquid management system in the 156 villages located along the River Godavari.

The Collector reminded that Rs 500 was sanctioned to all government high schools in the district to create awareness about Swachh Bharat scheme among the masses. ZP chairman Namana Rambabu suggested the Collector to pay pending electricity bills from the funds sanctioned under 13th Finance Commission.

He said that gram panchayats in the district owe Rs 89 crore dues to Transco. Of the Rs 89 crore pending power bills, Rs 35 was the actual bill and remaining was interest and penalty. Rambabu directed the officials to implement MGRNEGA after Sankranthi festival and to identify 20,000 acres for cultivating horticulture crops.

District Collector Neetu Prasad informed that the High Court has withdrawn its stay order on management of sand reaches by DWCRA members. She said that sand reaches would be operated by SHG members from Wednesday.


Assistant Collector Sasanka, DRDA PD Chandrasekhar Raju and other officials were present.
