Guntur: The State government had launched the supply of medicines to various government hospitals through the Postal Department. The State Health, Medical and Family Welfare principal secretary, L V Subrahmanyam, formally launched the scheme here on Thursday. The Postal Department would transport the medicines required for various government hospitals from the Andhra Pradesh Pharmacy Council’s store in Guntur. In the first phase, the department would supply medicines from the store to Guntur, Krishna, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Chittoor districts.

Subrahmanyam said that the logistics wing of the postal department would transport the medicines from the pharmacy store every day. This would minimize the inconvenience faced in the government hospitals for lack of medicine, he said. The Post Master General Elisha said that the department was already distributing pensions to the beneficiaries on behalf of the State government. The new intervention would help the department to serve the people on behalf of the State government in supplying medicine to the government hospitals. He said that the department was ready for more such services in the days to come.
