A number persons were taken into custody in connection with the case of setting fire to farm lands in Thulluru mandal under the State capital region, Home Minister N Chinarajappa said here on Sunday. The Minister told the media after meeting the local officials at the Police Commissioner’s office that the investigation into the cases of arson was continuing. He refuted the charge of some Opposition parties that the TDP activists were behind the arson.

Vijayawada: A number persons were taken into custody in connection with the case of setting fire to farm lands in Thulluru mandal under the State capital region, Home Minister N Chinarajappa said here on Sunday. The Minister told the media after meeting the local officials at the Police Commissioner’s office that the investigation into the cases of arson was continuing. He refuted the charge of some Opposition parties that the TDP activists were behind the arson.

Chinarajappa stated that police personnel from other districts of Andhra Pradesh would be transferred to Vijayawada Commissionerate to meet its increasing needs as the capital region was coming up in its vicinity. The initiatives of the city police like FIR at doorstep, three shifts for policemen and Dial 100 were getting a good feedback. “We are considering replicating the initiatives in other parts of the State for effective policing,”

He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was planning to expand the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate to cover the entire capital region. A decision in this regard would be taken soon. The inclusion of mandals and police districts would be decided depending on the Chief Minister’s decision. On welfare measures, the Minister said health cards were being given to home guards also and their pay revision was being considered.
