CM, Union Ministers to participate

Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani will be coming to the city on Saturday to lay foundation-stone for the proposed Indian Institute Management (IIM) at Gambheeram village of Anandapuram mandal. While a majority of farmers were not willing to hand over their land and staging protests, Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and the district officials were making all efforts to convince the farmers, assuring them of best compensation.

The CPM leaders also were demanding the government to first finalise payment of compensation to the land losers before going for laying of foundation-stone for the IIM. Meanwhile, the Visakhapatnam District Motor Transport Owners’ Joint Action Committee also vehemently opposed the move to merge the area of newly constructed modern vehicle driving test track with the IIM as it was built with public-private participation with a lion’s share from the district lorry owners. The officials were going ahead with the laying of foundation-stone despite likely protests widespread.
