Godavari Pushkaram Works Gain Momentum. Local MP Maganti Murali Mohan, along with City and Rural MLAs Akula Satyanarayana and Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary, besides City Mayor Pantam Rajani on Tuesday visited Kotilingala Revu on the banks of the river Godavari. The elected representatives are giving top priority to divert sewage water and industrial pollutants which is causing a major threat to the river.

The elected representatives are giving top priority to divert sewage water and industrial pollutants which is causing a major threat to the river.
In view of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s proposed visit on Friday, the people’s representatives and officials geared up to accelerate the Godavari Pushkaram works.
Speaking to the media, Murali Mohan said infrastructure facilities and 12-day makeshift arrangements works would be taken up on a war-footing. The MP said he had already approached the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister, the Railway Minister and others in Delhi and submitted representations on many issues relating to Godavari Pushkarams.
Murali Mohan said he appealed to the Union Minister among others providing infrastructure for night landing facility and extension of runway of Madhurapudi airport, finalising tenders for rail-cum-road bridge repair work and inauguration of the fourth bridge. He asserted that there was no dearth of funds to organise the Pushkarams.
Butchaiah Chowdary claimed that he had experience of conducting Pushkaram in 2003. He asked officials and others to complete the Pushkaram works at least one month before the inauguration. The government, the MLA said, had already given administrative sanction to spend Rs 240 crore. About Rs 4.48 crore would be spent immediately on permanent repair works of the Nalla channel which carries the town’s sewage water to the treatment plant and remove silt between the bund and the river. He stated that all temples along the Godavari bund including Uma Markandeya Swami temple would be renovated.
Satyanarayana said as BJP MLA he had already represented to the Centre to release funds for the Pushkarams on the lines of the Kumbha Mela. The Havelock bridge would be renovated with of Central government’s assistance. New bathing ghats would be built and old ones renovated.
