The TDP candidate has been in the lead in the counting of votes in the first crucial by-elections in Tirupati post Andhra Pradesh bifurcation.

At the end of the eighth round, TDP candidate Sugunamma, wife of former MLA Venkataramana was leading by 50,475 votes and Congress candidate had clocked 3696 votes.

Tirupati by-poll results will be out soon as the counting of by-poll votes is underway at the SVRS college. The votes will counted in total 19 rounds. More than 2.94 Lakh voters were eligible to cast their votes at 256 polling centres in the constituency in Chittoor district.

The by-election was necessitated after the death of sitting legislator M. Venkatramana of ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The party has fielded his wife M. Suguna..Though there are 13 candidates in the fray, it is a direct fight between Suguna and Congress party's R. Sreedevi.

For the first time, the election authorities had made arrangements for web casting and video recording in all the polling stations in view of the fierce tie between TDP and Congress in the temple town constituency.. TDP founder president and late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N T Rama Rao and Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi were also elected to Assembly from Tirupati.
