Hyderabad: The budget sessions of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are set to overlap with the TRS government deciding to hold for 20 days from March 7 and the Andhra Pradesh government also contemplating to hold the session from the same date. The budget session of Telangana has raised curtains for a new controversy over the manner in which the government has decided over the decisions like holding the session even on Sunday (March 8) when the government proposes to initiate discussion on motion of thanks to the Governor’s address.

Political parties, including MIM, have taken objection to the government taking such a decision without consulting them. Cutting across party lines, the leaders told The Hans India that the normal practice is that the government puts up its proposals before the Business Advisory Committee and it is the BAC which decides on the number of sittings and whether the House should function on Saturdays or Sundays, which normally are holidays, and when the evening session if need be should be held.

BJP state president G Kishen Reddy and Congress deputy leader in the Assembly J Geeta Reddy as well as MIM leaders said they would take up the issue with the Speaker. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday held a meeting with Speaker Madhusudhana Chary and Chairman of the Legislative Council K Swamy Goud in the Assembly premises along with Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao, Chief Whip K Eshwar and a few Cabinet colleagues and after discussing the dates and schedule called on Governor ESL Narasimhan and invited him to address the joint session of the legislature on March 7.

It is said that the discussion on motion of thanks to Governor’s speech would be held for three days. Finance Minister Eatala Rajender would be presenting the budget on March 11. After the customary holiday on March 12 to allow members to go through the budget copies, the House would deliberate on the budget proposals for three-days from March 13-16 (March 15 Sunday is a holiday). Government’s reply to the budget would be on March 17. In view of Ugadi, the government has decided to give holidays on March 21 and 22.
