Tirupati: CPI Chittoor district had resolved to launch a movement to press the State government to take up ‘Chittoor District Water Supply Scheme’ (CDWSS) to fulfill the drinking water requirements of the district, on a permanent basis.

In the two-day party district conference which concluded on Friday at Srikalahasti, the party had adopted as many as 26 resolutions including on CDWSS. Briefing the media here on Saturday on the resolutions passed in the meet, party district secretary G Rama Naidu crticised the TD government for keeping the much needed CDWSS in abeyance, for political considerations, ignoring the severe drinking water problem prevailing in almost all the mandals of the district. The party had resolved to organise a ‘jeep jatha’ and also to organise meetings covering all the mandals to build up public opinion to force the government to immediately take up the scheme as it is the only possible way out to resolve the drinking water problem in the district.

The party demanded the government to declare the entire district as drought-affected, keeping in view of the severity of drought conditions prevailing in the district, for taking up relief measures including drinking water supply, fodder supply and cattle camps, providing employment to rural poor to check migration, construction of tubs for water to cattle etc. on war foot basis.

The meet decided to build up public movement in a phased manner on land issues, including allotment of house sites to poor and lands to landless poor for cultivation for their livelihood.

In this connection, Rama Naidu said the party wanted the government to take necessary steps, including allocation of more funds for the completion of the pending projects including Handri-Neeva, Galeru-Nagari, Somasila-Swarnamuki Canal (SS Canal) and also Kandaleru project drinking water supply scheme.

Other resolutions adopted include, allocation of 25 percent of TTD funds for the integrated development of Tirupati keeping in view the steady increase of pilgrims rush, time bound completion of the major initiatives including international airport and development of Tirupati railway station and commencing the courses in the IIT from the next academic year .

The CPI also demanded free power supply up to 300 units to power looms, setting up of welfare boards to auto workers and hamalis on the lines of the Construction Workers Welfare Board. It also expressed concern over downsizing the capacity of Mannavaram project, affecting employment in the backward district.

It also sought to hand over the Chittoor dairy to Vijaya dairy for reviving it and also to modernise Balaji Dairy for the benefit of the milk

farmers.
