CPM opposes second toll gate in Nellore dist.As people in large numbers started coming here by road from the neighbouring States, the Union Ministry of Surface Transport and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), started focusing on the city.
Nellore: The CPM leaders opposed the setting up of a second Tollgate Plaza at Kondayapalem Road near the city, when there was already a Tollgate Plaza near the national highway at Venkatachalam, just 10 km away.
After the state was bifurcated and M Venkaiah Naidu became Union Cabinet Minister, Nellore city, with a population of 10 lakh, gained prominence with national leaders and central officials making a beeline to the district. Moreover, the presence of the Krishnapatnam Port is an additional attraction here.
As people in large numbers started coming here by road from the neighbouring States, the Union Ministry of Surface Transport and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), started focusing on the city.
They thought that more income could be earned by setting up another toll gate on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway as they could collect more money from vehicles going to Chennai, Bengaluru and Tirupati.
