Vizianagaram: Many TDP leaders from Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts are camping in Hyderabad for securing party tickets in the ensuing Legislative Council elections. The aspirants are allegedly prepared to offer any amount of money to secure the ticket. While some of them are seeking an assurance from the party leadership that they would be nominated under the Governor’s quota, others are eying the local body quota.

The aspirants include the also-ran in the 2014 elections and those who withdrew from the contest at the instance of the party high leadership. They are going round the TDP head office, NTR Trust Bhavan, hoping against hope that they would find a way out. Former Minister Pratibha Bharathi from Srikakulam is said to be in the race from Vizianagaram district. Former Minister K Kala Venkata Rao is allegedly opposing her candidature.

Even former Congress Minister S Vijayarama Raju is stated to be staking a claim for the TDP ticket. Some ruling party MLAs are said to be persuading party youth wing chief Nara Lokesh to allot tickets to their followers. Former MLA Shoba Hymavathi is trying her luck by a staking a claim for ticket as a nominee of the party’s women’s wing. Gummadi Sandhyarani is also an aspirant. Ex-MLA Thentu Lakshman Naidu of Parvathipuram is among the aspirants.

Leaders staking claims for the ticket include Dwarapureddy Jagadish, former legislators Bhanjdev and Gadde Babu Rao and Trimurthula Raju. There is a stiff competition among four TDP leaders in the context of group rivalries and some claim that the Parvathipuram division has been neglected so far. These leaders are pressing for the ticket to be given to a person from the division.

While some aspirants are facing charges of changing parties, some fear that a relative holding a Minister’s post or a ZP post could become a disadvantage. One leader has reportedly expressed apprehension that since his daughter is ZP vice- chairperson he may not be given the ticket. Leaders of other parties are watching the developments keenly seeking to know which division leader will be selected as the TDP candidate.
