Kodela takes a lengthy class, condones errant MLAs

Hyderabad: Beating a retreat, the YSRCP legislators offered unconditional apology to Speaker K Sivaprasada Rao in the AP Assembly on Thursday. It may be recalled that the TDP had moved a privilege notice against nine of the YSRCP MLAs against whom the ruling TDP has sought stringent punishment for their inappropriate conduct against the Speaker in the House by thumping his desk and using objectionable language and making offensive gestures.

The House had taken up a discussion on the motion moved by TDP member Anitha seeking for action against the YSRCP MLAs, following an unconditional apology tendered by Leader of the Opposition and YSRCP chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. The Speaker decided to let the issue end here after giving them a lecture on how he felt offended for having insulted the Chair and for having violated the rules and procedure of the house and going against the decency and decorum.

Following this, and in view of the apologies tendered by the members and the main Opposition party, he said the slogans by the members in question belittling the Chair indeed caused pain to him, as it would bring down the dignity of the House. Reminding that he had no intention of treating any party in a partisan manner, the Speaker said that “of the five crore people only 175 people could become MLAs, of them some could become ministers and only one could become the Speaker with the support of all the members of the House.”

YSRCP may drop no-trust move

Hyderabad: Following hectic behind-the-scene parleys between the Opposition and ruling party members, the YSRCP is learnt to have expressed its desire to withdraw the no-confidence motion it had moved against Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao. Happy with the Speaker’s response, the YSRCP members are thinking of withdrawing the no-confidence motion. The YSRCP is likely to make an announcement to this effect on Friday. Meanwhile, the BAC, which met here on Thursday, decided to hold a separate day-long Assembly session on April 4 to take up a debate on the no-trust motion against the Speaker, if the YSRC does not take back the motion.
